Outpost Performance Space presents an evening of Indian Classical Music with Zakir Hussain (tabla), Kumaresh Rajagopalan (violin), and Jayanthi Kumaresh (veena), presented in parternship with the Lensic Performing Arts Center and sponsored by Angelica Foundation, Livingry Foundation, Nicholas Potter Bookseller, OGB Architectural Millwork & Serafians Oriental Rugs.

The preeminent classical tabla virtuoso of our time, Zakir Hussain’s brilliant performances have established him as a national treasure in his native India and as one of the world’s most esteemed and influential musicians. Renowned for his genre-defying collaborations, he is one of the chief architects of the world music movement and is responsible for bringing the tabla to a global audience.

The 2014-2015 Resident Artistic Director for SFJAZZ in San Francisco, Hussain returns to the Lensic in Santa Fe to present a performance that combines traditional North Indian classical music with flavors of Carnatic music hailing specifically from southern India.

Hussain will be joined by one of India’s top Carnatic violin virtuosos, Kumaresh Rajagopalan, known for his brilliant musical interpretations with numerous artists including the dynamic violin duo with his brother Ganesh; and Jayanthi Kumaresh, a renowned master of the veena, a plucked stringed instrument with origins in Pakistan, considered by many to be celestial with ties to ancient times. Saraswati, the goddess of the arts, is many times depicted playing a veena.
