The Santa Fe Institute presents InterPlanetary Film Scores: Art, Craft, Science? with Jeffrey Ernstoff

What goes into the making of a great sci-fi film score? What do the musical themes and sound effects from InterPlanetary/extraterrestrial films have in common? What sets them apart? How have science and technical innovations affected the process? What are the tricks of the trade?

On the eve of the Santa Fe Institute's City-Wide InterPlanetary Film Festival, join musical multi-instrumentalist, creative director, and SFI arts consultant Jeffrey Ernstoff for fascinating insights into InterPlanetary sci-fi- themed soundtracks that have left an indelible mark on the history of radio, television and motion pictures. (Spoiler Alert: you'll never listen to these films the same way again!)

Jeffrey Ernstoff earned his Masters Degree in Arts Programming at Harvard University; a three-time National Endowment for the Arts Fellow, and former creative director for Radio City Music Hall, his scripts and music have been heard on CBS, NBC, ABC and at Boston’s Symphony Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Mt. Rushmore, and The White House.

For this very special evening, Mr. Ernstoff’s program will also include a live demonstration/performance by theremin Virtuouso, Rob Schwimmer (aka Carlos Antenna).
